We had some time to spend in the morning before our transport came. So we walked around the hotel to check out the surrounding area.
Before you read further, let me give you a brief geography lesson on Maldives. It’s a country of many little islands – 1,192 islands in total, but only 200 are inhibited. The airport is on its own island. The capital city is on another island. The resorts are built on many different islands. Usually one island has one resort. To go from an island to another, you need to take a boat or a seaplane.
Let’s start the day with a good breakfast!
In front of Loona Hotel on Airport Island, where we stayed for the night.
The beach is just across the road.
Sandy white stretch.
No bikini allowed!
The quiet street in front of the hotel.
The shop where we bought shawls the night before.
It was a new area, several buildings were still under construction.
Checking out fruits at a grocery shop.
The transport came and we headed to the airport. No, no, no, not heading home just yet! Not taking a plane anywhere either. We actually had to go to the airport to check-in at the resort’s counter there. Then we had to take a boat from the jetty just opposite the airport’s terminal to go to the resort.
Red light means cars have to stop because a plane is crossing the road.
Counter 54 for Thulhagiri Island Resort.
Had ice cream while waiting for departure time.
The boat that would take us to the resort.
A view from the airport jetty.
All set to go!
Really enjoyed the scenery along the ride. Aquamarine water, beautiful islands, breezy weather. Reached the resort in about 30 minutes. The moment I saw it, I was immediately in awe.
Wanna see how the resort looks like?
A sneak peak from the boat’s window.
Wait for my next entry for more ;-)
