It was the time of the year for F1 Malaysian Grand Prix! Last Sunday, me, Farah and Zuzu headed to SIC to watch it. It was Farah’s first ever live F1 experience, so we decided to go there early so we could show her around the paddock before the race started. We reached the circuit at around 1pm, entered the PA1 parking lot and...
...found a sexy red friend for Dobby. Be nice while we’re gone, okay Dobby?
Let’s get the party started!
We checked out the booths and Farah bought a pair of red headphones.
She’s crazy about Schumacher as much as I’m crazy about Alonso.
Off to the North Tower T2, where our seats were.
Scanned our grandstand tickets...
...and we were in the paddock!
There were plenty stalls in the area so food wasn’t an issue. Just bring enough cash with you. A can of Coke is RM 5, a bowl of rice is RM 20, so go figure.
Our lunch: Japanese chicken rice, takoyaki and fish sandwich.
Pit babes paraded in.
Team engineers and mechanics waiting for the cars to be in position.
The cars went in. That was Hamilton on the left and mi amor Alonso on the right.
Then came the Prime Minister. He waved at the crowd and went to greet each driver.
My ever faithful teletubbies headphone. The on-track commentator’s frequency was 102.1 FM.
A view from our Tower North seats. All eager for the race to start.
And the race began!
After 56 laps, the chequered flag went to Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull. Second was Hamilton. Third was Webber. Mi amor Alonso took fifth. Farah’s Schumacher was eleventh. After the race finished, we headed to the surau to do Asar prayers then walked around the paddock for more photo opp.
Alonso’s pit garage.
Coincidentally both me and Zuzu wore HRC t-shirts. Mine was Buenos Aires, hers was Hong Kong.
A view from the upper grandstand.
Permission to enter the commentary booths?
A Schumacher fan through and through.
Leaving the mall area. See you next year!
It’s raining man! There was Rain’s concert after the race, but we didn’t stay for it…
...because we were super duper hungry! Went to Saba Restaurant at Cyberjaya to eat Arab food. Yumster!
All in all, it was awesome. Going there early was a good thing, we had ample time to do other things before the race started. But leaving with the rest of crowd was horrible. It took us 2 hours just to get out of the track area! Might as well we stay for the concert, even if we are not Rain fans, neither understand any Korean, nor enjoy K-pop.
As for the race, too bad Alonso didn’t do too well. Looks like it’s gonna be Vettel’s year this year. It’s gonna be great to watch the prancing horse fighting the red bull for the rest of the season!
