Last week my friend Liza took me out for lunch in her Harrier. It’s a “recon” car so it has Japanese specs. The funny thing is that all the buttons on the dashboard are labeled with Japanese characters. The LCD screen (which supposes to explain what is which) also displays everything in Japanese. She only knew one button – air-cond (thankfully!), the rest she had no clue.
I took a couple of photos of the dashboard and posted them on my Facebook. Then I tagged my Japanese speaking family and friends, asking them to translate the wordings. Received several very useful replies.
That’s the dashboard. The third button from left is for air-cond. The rest?
Tom: Please wait, Map Disc confirming in progress.....kereta baru ker? :)
Liya: yg button tu: TV-image quality-aircond-information-menu-destination-present location =)
My aunt: screen tu kata‘tengah verifying the map disk kat dlm tu...so please tunggu’.....map pun in japanese??hahaha!!!!
This one appears when she reverses the car.
Liya: dia suh confirm kiri kanan kete dgn mata ok ke tak..:)
Erin: every color hv own meaning...how safe can reverse n the danger area if touch certain line...i ges so..hehehe
Nafnaf: sila pastikan kereta2 di keliling kenderaan anda ituuu . yg line2 tu mcm erin ckp tu..... hmm kesimpulannya “SILA PASTIKAN’ tu jerr. hehehe. kereta jepun mmg byk “sila pastikan, sila pastikan, bahaya bahaya...” hehehe
Hahaha now we know!
By the way, Liza figured out that the car’s radio can only reach frequency up to 85.0 or something. Since most Malaysian radio stations play on frequencies more than 90.0, she hadn’t been listening to radio since she drove it! :-D
That’s the lady driver.
No more main tekan2 after this!
Since it’s Friday and we have long lunch break, maybe I should ask her to drive out today so we can godek2 the other buttons. Let’s see if they work!
