halal feature: Pastamania! @ Choa Chu Kang, Singapore

Today’s Singapore is not short of halal eateries, unlike many years ago. When I was a kid, a trip to the city centre must start with a big breakfast at home as it was difficult to get hearty halal meal downtown. We would eat big, go out, have a good time and drop by at some small halal stall somewhere in the suburb before returning home. Having short meals in between was out of the question, unless it was bread or chips. There was once my family and I were out in the city and I got so hungry, we ended up going to A&W but could only eat French fries. How I wished I was in Malaysia at that time so I could eat Coney dog! But that was way back then (like 20 years ago or more), so we can forget all that. Nowadays you can eat Burger King, KFC and Pizza Hut in Singapore without worry.

This restaurant called Pastamania! (yes, the name comes with an exclamation mark) is a really great place. The food is awesome, the service is efficient and the price is affordable. It’s located inside Lot One Shoppers’ Mall in Choa Chu Kang, which is just next to Choa Chu Kang MRT station. The restaurant uses self-service concept - order at the counter, pick up your drinks, get a queue number, return to your table and they will send the food to you.

The menu card. See the halal logo at the bottom right corner? Too small, maybe.

Okay, blew it up. Can you see it now?

Irfan’s meatball spaghetti.

My excellent plate of carbonara.

Hz’s penne in tomato sauce (not sure if it was marinara or something else).

Chicken wings.

Cheese sticks coated with breadcrumbs. Fatty yet yummy!

My aunt’s lasagna.

That’s the restaurant from outside. Love the fun outlook!

Here’s Lot One Shoppers’ Mall on Google map. The restaurant is inside. Just take the elevator and go up a few floors, you’ll find it there.
