It’s the eve of Eid Al-Adha @ Hari Raya Qurban @Hari Raya Haji. Over in the holy land, hajj pilgrims are gathering at Arafah, saying lots of prayers, asking for Allah’s forgiveness, emulating the Day of Judgment. At home, my family just finished doing some quick house cleaning followed by dinner. Tomorrow we will have to wake up early to go the mosque for prayers. Usually it will be followed by qurban. The village folks (mostly men) will change their attire from festive to casual in order to help with the slaughtering of cows, lambs, sheep and other permissible four-legged animals. But since this year’s Eid falls on a Friday, the mosque committee has decided to postpone qurban to Saturday. If they stick to Friday everything would have to be done in a rush as they have to wrap up before Friday prayers. Better just do it on Saturday then.
To all Muslims out there, wishing you a wonderful Eid Al-Adha, may you have a festive one. To those performing hajj, may you be granted hajj mabrur. To the non-Muslims, enjoy the long weekend.
Speaking of long weekends, those working in Selangor will be enjoying four consecutive 3-day-weekends beginning 11th December 2009 coz there’s a public holiday falling on each Friday. 11th is Sultan Selangor’s birthday. 18th is Awal Muharam. 25th is Christmas. 1st in New Year. Awesome!
