on the fateful night of 1 june 2009, air france flight AF 447 plunged into the atlantic ocean. 228 people were on board, 216 passengers and 12 crew members. none of them survived.
i shall not elaborate more on how it happened, you can read it here on wikipedia news. all the important details of the tragedy are in there.
every time news like this appears, i pray please Allah, let it not be any malaysian on board. let it not be any of our code-share airline partners. let it not be another terrorist attack that may later result to ill-feeling towards fellow muslims (even when no one can prove any involvement of islamic extremists whatsoever, the stigma always sticks).
it feels really sad to hear this happen to air france, our dear friend in the fraternity. they have been in the industry for so long, with great reputation too. they are one of the industry's biggest players. some airlines passengers will try to avoid unless they have no choice, but not air france. they are always one of the preferred ones.
in a few days on 7-9 june 2009 mas will be hosting 65th International Air Transport Association (IATA) Annual General Meeting (AGM) and World Air Transport Summit in kl. surely reporters from all over the world will be there to ask a million questions about airline safety and what IATA members think about the recent tragedy. this is going to be one interesting meeting.
my heart goes out to everyone who lost their loved ones on that fateful night. al- fatihah for the muslim souls and may they be placed in jannah.
let this be a reminder to us all that our life is really fragile. make the most of it. live with no regret. prepare to meet your maker, for He can call upon you anytime.
